Low Testosterone

What is Low Testosterone?

Low Testosterone or Hypogonadism is a common medical condition in most men, ages 35-60, and occurs when the testicles decrease their natural production of male sex hormones, or testosterone. Testosterone production is directly responsible for male characteristics like deeper voices and larger bone and muscle development. When accurately tested, a physician will conduct a blood sample test to determine your true testosterone level, and compare it to a range of 270 – 1100. For most men, your highest levels of testosterone occur in adolescence through early adulthood, and as you age, your testosterone levels will decrease naturally over time.

Symptoms of Low T?

Low testosterone is statistically likely to happen to all men over the age of 40, and can often lead to a wide range of symptomology including:

  • A loss of sex drive (low libido)
  • Depression
  • Premature hair loss
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Decline in physical activity
  • Diminished mental activity
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Weight gain

Unfortunately, many of the low testosterone symptoms can also be mistaken for other underlying conditions. It is important that you speak with your medical provider about getting your testosterone levels tested.
