What are Some Common ED Treatment Options?

More men than ever before are being diagnosed with erectile dysfunction. This is due in large part to developments in ED treatment options and the breaking down of stigmas associated with this condition.

Today, more men than ever realize they are not the only one going through this, and there’s no reason to feel embarrassed or ashamed. If you are experiencing frustrations in your sex life as a result of ED, the physicians at Summit Male Medical Center can help. We help men just like you lead healthier, more enjoyable sex lives every day.

Below, you’ll find some of the more common ED treatment options. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a good jumping off point when you are ready to start a conversation with one of our doctors.

Oral Medication

Popular medications such as Viagra and Cialis have undoubtedly marked the most important step forward for ED treatment options in the past two decades. For many patients, a prescription for one of these drugs has allowed them to achieve and maintain an erection and get more enjoyment out of sexual intercourse.

The success rate is quite high, around 80 percent. They work by increasing the flow of blood to the penis. It is important to note that men with certain health conditions may not be able to take pills to treat ED, particularly those taking nitroglycerin to treat heart disease.

For some patients, injections are a better ED treatment option. This is often the case with men who are taking medications that cannot be combined with ED pills. These injections are used to achieve an automatic erection. This differs from pills, which do not create an automatic erection, but require sexual stimulation.

Other ED Treatment Options

There are other options out there, including the vacuum pump. This of course, is a bit more involved and can include somewhat painful side effects such as bruising or numbness. Therefore, it is not recommended these are used for more than 30 minutes.

Some patients also opt for surgical implants. This is an ED treatment option that should be weighed only when other treatments are not effective. It should involve a consultation with an experienced physician.
